Khmer filmmaker Neang Kavich spent six years studying music at “Cambodian Living Arts” and is now a student of film at Limkokwing University Phnom Penh. This combination of knowledge prompted him to make a documentary on Cambodian funeral music (“smot”), produced by French-Cambodian Davy Chou. Their film educates young Cambodians about this endangered traditional art form and teaches them not to be afraid of ghosts when they hear the chants.
